The actual effort for the introduction, implementation and development as well as auditing of management systems depends primarily on which DIN EN ISO standards are used and at which locations they are used. With an IMS (e.g. with quality according to ISO 9001, energy ISO 50001 and environment ISO 14001) there is less effort than with several individual certifications.

The 1st party audit is conducted twice a year and is considered a self-assessment process. The processes are evaluated for effectiveness in cooperation with internal and external auditors. The standard aspects, such as the fulfillment of the respective regulations and the verification of proof of conformity, are considered more intensively.

In order to effectively check and improve all process areas, internal auditing based on the "polluter pays principle" is required (a holistic efficiency control with key figures as a reflection of the company / entire process and value chain).

However, in order to successfully use the desired synergy effects from different areas of an organization, it is advisable to first concentrate on the processes that actually exist. From our project experience we know that determining the functionality is the first basic step for the strategy. 

When certifying several standards, it is much more effective to set up an IMS with a combined certificate. The selection of suitable certificates with the determination of process application areas has a direct effect on the 1st party audit / 3rd party audit. Which ISO standard requirements can be excluded must be carefully considered. 

Each company can also only have a specific process area certified (not all departments or process areas have to be).
